On Thursday evening, Twitter was set ablaze by Robert Marawa when he announced that he was no longer employed by SuperSport.
As reported by Times Live, the popular sportscaster did not pitch up for his weekly Thursday Night Live with Robert Marawa show because he was told, via text message, that his services were no longer required.
Why was Robert Marawa fired?
There have been conflicting versions of the reason behind Marawa’s booting. According to the sportscaster, there are dark forces at play, that will cost him his life if he ever brought it to the surface.
When asked about this, Marawa told a fan,
However, on the other hand, SuperSport has stated that the decision was communicated with Marawa days prior to the night of the show.
“SuperSport is in the process of an exciting refresh of its local presenter line-up, which will be unveiled as part of our new football season campaign. This restructure includes us not pursuing our contractual relationship with Robert Marawa. Robert was personally advised of our decision earlier this week.
“We are grateful for his contribution over the years and wish him great success in his future endeavours,” SuperSport spokesperson, Clinton van der Berg told the publication.
Marawa’s tumultuous history with networks
This is the second time Marawa has been booted by a network. In 2017, the sportscaster ‘parted ways’ with SABC in a not-so-amicable way.
Marawa walked out of his live Metro FM show, to show solidarity to the perceived unfair dismissal of his former radio show producer, Beverley Maphangwa.
After weeks of no progress in mediation talks, the public broadcaster chose to terminate his contract.
Marawa was scheduled to host the Champions League final fixture between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, on 1 June. However, this seems unlikely to happen and the sports network has yet to announce a replacement for the event.
