Super Rugby

Hurricanes vs Sharks, Westpac Stadium, 08:05

The Sharks, who like the Stormers will be chasing a hat-trick of Super Rugby wins for 2020 this weekend, have made just one change to their starting line-up for their clash with the Hurricanes in Wellington.

Former Junior Springbok flyhalf Boeta Chamberlain comes in at flyhalf in place of Springbok Curwin Bosch, who has returned to South Africa because of a family bereavement.

Meanwhile, All Blacks hooker Dane Coles has been named in the Hurricanes match-day 23. Coles, who returns from injury, will be on the bench while the starting line-up remains relatively unchanged from the one that beat the Jaguares in Buenos Aires last weekend.

Lions prop Dylan Smith will run out in his 50th Super Rugby game on Saturday when they host the Stormers at Ellis Park.

The burly prop made his Super Rugby debut in 2016 and has scored two tries in the red and white jersey. In the only change to the Highvelders’ starting line-up, Manuel Rass comes in at centre in place of Duncan Matthews, while Springbok loose forward Willem Alberts is on the bench.

There are four changes to the Stormers starting line-up, with Godlen Masimla (scrumhalf), Juarno Augustus (No 8) and Wilco Louw (prop) all set to make their first starts of the season. Masimla and Augustus come in for the injured Herschel Jantjies and Jaco Coetzee respectively, with Johan du Toit shifting to flank from the back of the scrum.

Leinster v Cheetahs, RDS Arena, 16:30

Cheetahs prop Aranos Coetzee will reach a significant career milestone when he takes the field in the Guinness PRO14 this weekend. It will be his 50th cap in the tournament.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United face off at Loftus Versfeld as the PSL title race reaches a critical stage for Pitso Mosimane’s men. This will likely not be an easy test for the defending champions.

Chippa were abysmal in a 3-0 defeat to SuperSport United, but improved in a 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates before thrashing TS Galaxy 3-0 in the Nedbank Cup round of 32.

Baroka FC vs Bidvest Wits, Peter Mokaba Stadium, 15:30

Wits seek to keep their PSL title hopes alive with a visit to Baroka on Saturday. Gavin Hunt’s men will be out for revenge on a team which beat them 1-0 on their own turf in August.

Baroka were then under the guidance of Wedson Nyirenda, but now have Dylan Kerr in charge. The team is on course to survive relegation, but cannot count themselves as safe just yet.

Highlands Park vs Bloemfontein Celtic, 15:30

Highlands Park host Bloemfontein Celtic at Makhulong Stadium in a Saturday game which could go some way towards deciding the race for eighth place.

The Lions of the North currently occupy that position, but Bloem Celtic are one point behind with a game in hand in ninth

Eric Tinkler wants his team to take the game to Kaizer Chiefs from the get go when they meet in a Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium on Saturday (15 February).

Sixth-placed Maritzburg United head into their encounter with Kaizer Chiefs off the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Bidvest Wits in midweek.

AmaZulu vs Golden Arrows, Kings Park Stadium, 20:15

Embattled AmaZulu host Golden Arrows on Saturday night as the Durban derby hits Kings Park Stadium.

This is the home of Sharks Rugby first and foremost, but while life is going swimmingly for Sean Everitt’s men, Usuthu are in murky waters.

England beat the Proteas by two runs at Kingsmead in the second T20I to set up a series decider at Supersport Park on Sunday. Quinton de Kock set a new record for the fastest T20 fifty by a South African but it wasn’t enough as the hosts went down in a thriller in Durban.

South Africa’s Kholo Montsi beat Ivory Coast’s Eliakim Coulibaly 6-4 6-1 in the final of the African Junior Championships at the University of Pretoria on Friday.

Speaking after the match, Montsi said: “I’m super happy with the victory. I have lost to Eliakim in our previous three encounters, so to come out today with a win is something really special to me.

“There was a moment after my match where I found myself crying – it’s a big win to get my African Junior Championships title in my last year (as a junior) and it feels even better to get a win against Eliakim because he is such a great player.”

Later in the day, Montsi teamed up with Carl Roothman in the boys doubles final against compatriots Devin Badenhorst and Mikaeel Woodman. The top-seeded pair defeated Badenhorst and Woodman 6-2 6-3 to claim the doubles title.

At 16 years, six months and 17 days, Jarvis broke a record that had been held for 51 years when he triumphed with a winning aggregate of 25-under-par 263 – a full nine strokes clear of his nearest competitor, Port Elizabeth’s Kyle de Beer.

The Boksburg teenager eclipsed the previous mark held by the renowned Dale Hayes, who won the first edition of the flagship event at 16 years and eight months at Humewood Golf Club in 1969.

In January, Jarvis shot to No 1 in the GolfRSA Open Amateur rankings with successive victories in the Free State and Gauteng North Opens.
