For many, becoming a pageant winner might be a distant and unattainable dream. But for 10 spectacular finalists, the moment of being crowned Miss SA is a step closer. Thanks to live and streaming options on DStv, viewers will be able to experience the thrills from the safety of their couch this Saturday.

While Zozibini Tunzi had to give up her role when she won Miss Universe, she’ll still make her mark as one of the judges this year. Joining her are charismatic radio host Anele Mdoda, former Miss SA and CEO of Standard Bank Wealth Nonhlanhla Peggy-Sue Khumalo, and stellar actresses Leandie du Randt and Kim Engelbrecht.

As runner-up, Alberton-born Sasha-Lee Laurel Olivier took over the crown, sash and duties of Miss SA from Zozibini. She championed for abuse survivors through her #itsnotyourfault campaign and will be on stage to crown Miss SA 2020 at the Table Bay Hotel.

There’s an added glimmer of joy to this year’s ceremony as the top three will also go on to represent South African in the Miss Universe, Miss World and – for the first time – Miss Supranational pageants. Available on Premium, Compact and Showmax, there are so many ways to celebrate South Africa’s new queen.

Moving in a completely new direction, director Lilly Watchowski (The Matrix) co-created a funny and profound show based on the life of improv comedienne, Abby McEnany. It takes a look at the power of relationships and the importance of support in times of crisis. It has an inclusive narrative that talks about queer rights and life outside of the gendered identities.

As a student at the renowned Second City, Abby had late-show host Stephen Colbert as a teacher. The effects of this experience are dry, witty and clever dialogue. As part of the sisters who famously transitioned after the success of The Matrix movies, Lilly Watchowski’s creative vision makes this a lovely journey in dramatic comedy.

Once again, we realise that real life is often stranger (and scarier) than fiction as Lifetime’s Shocktober movies ends with another true-story thriller. Lydia (Caroline Harris) goes through a devastating break-up and decides to move to a new apartment for a fresh start. As she retreats from her friends and family to gain clarity, she becomes the perfect target for her apartment manager’s passionate obsession.  Not just a typical stalker movie, one reviewer was surprised by the “Lifetime record for the most shirtless scenes” from the troubled landlord, Drew (Ignacyo Matynia).
