Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, has reiterated a warning against complacency to avoid a second wave of coronavirus infections.

This after the province recorded a 6% increase in coronavirus cases in the space of one week.

Gauteng has the most COVID-19 cases in the country – recording close to 220 000 infections since the start of the outbreak.

There are currently 19 000 active cases in the province.

Speaking at a Gauteng Province Command Council briefing, Makhura says, “We continue to make this point, that it doesn’t mean we will not experience another wave. The only thing that will make it easier for us to continue to contain the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the numbers are lower, is the conduct and behaviour of the people of the province. October/November could see us having a new wave unless people continue to conduct themselves,” adds Makhura.
