Authorities in KwaZulu-Natal have discouraged members of the public from throwing cigarette butts and leaving fires unattended as hot weather conditions are expected this weekend.
Recently uncontrollable fires destroyed four houses and several fields at KwaCeza near Ulundi north of the province.
The South Africa Weather Service (SAWS) says strong winds and high temperatures are expected in the western parts of the province today.
Forecaster Wisani Maluleke says, “We have fine and warm conditions. Strong winds over the western parts of the province these areas include Royal Natal, Van Reenen and Newcastle. With these strong winds and high temperatures over those areas, we are expecting extremely high fire danger conditions over those areas.”
