Tshwane residents call on ANC leaders to prioritise people’s needs

SABC News African National Congress - Tshwane residents call on ANC leaders to prioritise people’s needs

Tshwane residents have urged the African National Congress (ANC) in the region to prioritise people’s needs if it wants to regain power in 2021 local government elections.

The party lost the metro to the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the 2016 local government elections.

The ANC in Tshwane has failed to unseat the DA in subsequent years.

The DA regained the Mayorship this year after the high court reversed the ANC controlled provincial government’s decision to dissolve the council.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the ANC constantly disrupted and walked out of council meetings where a new mayor was to be elected.

However, DA councillor Randall Williams was elected Mayor at the end of October after several court battles.

In the video below, Williams elaborates on Tshwane’s current service delivery and governance woes:

Some Tshwane residents say the political mudslinging in the city had an adverse impact on service delivery.

“They must put the community first and then their personal gains last because it’s something that continues to make as the community,” one has told SABC News.

“Because politics they doing, they focus on each other not service delivery. We are at a mess you know, so we hope that this is a wakeup call for the ANC, that if they can be re-elected. They must take the people of South Africa seriously,” another added.
