African National Congress (ANC) NEC member, Lindiwe Sisulu, has thanked the community of Brandfort for providing late struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela with support while she was banished to the Free State town by the apartheid government.
Madikizela Mandela was banished by the regime for defying various apartheid laws.
Sisulu was speaking at a political lecture on the life and times of Madikizela-Mandela organised by the party in the province on what would have been her 84th birthday.

The struggle stalwart died in 2018. Her health had deteriorated over the last few years. She suffered from diabetes and underwent several major surgeries.
Madikizela-Mandela was the ex-wife of former president Nelson Mandela.
She held several government positions and once headed the ANC Women’s League.
Madikizela-Mandela has been hailed by some as the epitome of the struggle against inequalities, unemployment and poverty.
