ANC North West PTT to nominate candidates for Premier position

SABC News ANC - ANC North West PTT to nominate candidates for Premier position

The African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Task Team met in Rustenburg in the North West to decide on the three names of candidates for the position of Premier in the province. These names will be forwarded to the National Executive Committee of the party.

Some within the ANC say the PTT’s mandate was only to run the elections.

The ANC has emerged victorious in the North West where it obtained 61% of the provincial vote, a credit attributed to the party’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa.

North West PTT co-ordinator, Mamoloko Kobayi-Ngubane, says that there is going to be accountability in the party.

“The message that President Cyril Ramaphosa, as the leader of the ANC,  has been able to articulate and give us and say we are in a period of hope and renewal. It’s a new dawn, things are not going the same and there’s going to be accountability.”

Now that the elections are over, the ANC NEC is expected to announce the next political leadership of the North West. Kobayi-Ngubane refused to comment on the matter, saying the party will now focus on fighting corruption.

“The sixth administration’s responsibility is to be able to implement the manifesto of the ANC. One of the areas the manifesto covers is to deal decisively on corruption, so we expect them to deal with that decisively.”

With the legitimacy of the PTT being questioned, political decisions previously taken by them, including recalling some of the mayors implicated in the VBS bank scandal and dissolution of two of the party’s four regional structures; remain in doubt.
