ANC NEC holds special meeting after elections

SABC News Ramaphosa - ANC NEC holds special meeting after elections

Members of the Africans National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) are holding a special meeting in Pretoria to dissect the party’s performance in the 2019 national and provincial elections.

It’s the first time they are meeting since president Cyril Ramaphosa guided the party to a win in the elections.

The comprehensive ANC election campaign saw heavyweights such as former presidents Thabo Mbeki, Kgalema Motlanthe and Jacob Zuma making public appearances.

The meeting is likely to focus on Ramaphosa’s new cabinet for his upcoming presidential term.

Meanwhile, members of the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Federal Executive are meeting to discuss the party’s performance in the recent elections. The opposition party’s support declined by one-point-four-six percentage points in the national ballot.

The DA also lost its position as official opposition in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West. There’s speculation that DA leader Mmusi Maimane’s future is on the line, after the party lost electoral support across the country.

The meeting will also discuss the governance of the Western Cape in which the DA won back majority support and the deployment of party officials to the sixth Parliament.
