Watch: N12 hijacker caught by cops after dramatic high-speed chase

We all love a story with a happy ending, don’t we? When this crook decided to steal a Toyota Fortuner on the N12, he must have felt like Christmas had come early. However, it now looks like the hijacker will spend the holidays in a prison cell after he failed to outrun the cops in a high-speed chase through Gauteng.

Hijacker veers off-course in Gauteng

Speeding through the traffic on a busy N12 on Tuesday, the criminal chanced his arm and, for the most part, rode his luck. He weaved in and out of other motorists, while being diligently tracked by JMPD officers. He was ultimately unable to shake the law enforcement officials, and panic got the better of him.

At a major junction, the hijacker hesitated over which road would be the best possible escape route. Instead of forking left or right, he jack-knifed into a grassy embankment, smashing the car up in the process. A short-lived attempt to flee on foot was halted, and the cops were able to apprehend the suspect who’d led them on a dash across the N12.

High-speed N12 chase ends in tears for this criminal

The initial driver of vehicle, hijacked in Protea Glen, had set off from Potchefstroom and was on the way to Midrand. Although the victim was majorly inconvenienced, they can rest easy knowing justice was served, and no lives were lost:

“Fantastic job done by our Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 officers who arrested one suspect in Oakdene, for the possession of a hijacked Toyota Fortuner. This is following a high-speed chase on the N12, with the suspect trying to ram the officers’ vehicle off the road. The vehicle was hijacked in Protea Glen.”
