President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned that the country should guard against a second coronavirus wave, as South Africa moves to level one of the lockdown.

Level one will take effect from early Monday morning the 21st of September.

It entails the easing of restrictions on public gatherings with 250 people now being allowed to attend indoor gatherings and 500 people for outdoor gatherings.

Gyms and theatres will be allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity.

Alcohol sales will be allowed from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

The curfew has been eased and now will be in force from midnight to 4am.

The President was speaking in a live address to the nation.

He has urged people to download the COVID-19 Alert App and to use the COVID-19 Connect service on WhatsApp.

The President says South Africans must continue to follow coronavirus safety protocols.

South Africa has been on lockdown since March 26 to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
