Emaan Solomons: Tension boil as girl, aged seven, killed in gang shootout

The Ocean View community in the Western Cape is teetering on the brink of a knife-edge this afternoon, after it was confirmed that seven-year-old Emaan Solomons had died from injuries sustained by a bulletwond to the chest. The girl was fatally injured when she was caught in crossfire between rival gangs.

The truly tragic tale unravelled last night. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and the child was rushed to a nearby medical facility. However, they were unable to save litle Emaan’s life.

Police and anti-gang units have arrived in Ocean View on Wednesday morning, in a bid to root-out the criminal thugs who sparked this incident. The shooting in Libra Street also accounted for the life of a 31-year-old man.

Ocean View residents attack SAPS officers

Residents are apoplectic with the spiralling levels of crime in a neighbourhood which was already notorious for its gang-related violence. SAPS issued a statement on the matter earlier in the day, confirming that a number of locals “attacked police” when they arrived on the scene.

“Ocean View police responded to a shooting incident between rival gangs in Libra Way in Ocean View on Tuesday evening, 24 February 2020. On arrival, they discovered that a seven year old girl had been shot and seriously wounded.”

“She was transported to False Bay hospital by an ambulance. It emerged shortly thereafter that she died on arrival in hospital. Meanwhile a crowd that had gathered on the scene started attacking police.”

In a heaertbreaking development, a voice clip of Emaan Solomons’ father was sent to us, and his anguish is felt deeply. He can be heard shouting: “I don’t know how I am going to deal with this. I just don’t know.”
